They are associated with many health benefits because of the omega3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA which help in reducing inflammation throughout our body. Here the compound omega3 is very essential due to the numerous benefits associated to it. Though the oily fish do not produce omega3, it is accumulated in them on consuming the microalgae which produce this substance. The compound is then passed down the food chain when larger fish eat the smaller ones. As they say, anything good comes with a heavy price tag. The fish oil too has negative side effects due to several reasons which shall be dealt with subsequently.
Well Known Advantages
To list of the benefits of using fish oil is an abyss, some of the most prominent advantages being aiding heart diseases, anxiety, depression, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, disorders of the eye so on. It also helps in weight loss and in preventing skin disorders like acne and psoriasis from occurring. It also aids in the circulation of blood and helps improve the immunity in children, hence it is commonly prescribed for infants. Scientists are also currently researching on the possible cure of AIDS using fish oil with promising results.
The Dosage
As I told you, there are also many side effects and a few serious ones one need to consider before using or taking these capsules. A simple logic which we may use to explain the side effects is that, as the omega3 content gets accumulated into the fish down the food chain, so do the chemicals and all other toxins absorbed during each step of the food chain. So this finally multiplies the toxic content in the final product which is the fish oil. Hence a controlled use of fish-oil is recommended to take advantages of them with minimal side effects. The correct dosage varies from person to person depending on a a wide range of factors from age to existent diseases one has.
The Other Side of the Coin
We shall now look some of the potential harmful effects of the omega3 compound in the fish oil among different kinds of people. Apart from making your mouth smell of fish odor and minor indigestion problems or burping, the oil can potentially cause serious bouts of diarrhea and greasy stools. Oemge3 also has the tendency to reduce a person's blood pressure hence people already suffering from low blood pressure and those taking high blood pressure tablets need to be careful and strictly use the oil only if suggested and in controlled quantities. Large doses of fish oil are reported to have resulted in weight gain in diabetic patients and also increase their blood sugar levels. Very high doses of the oil can be fatal and may lead to bleeding from the nose or urinating blood. Also such high doses can lead to internal bleeding in a person's brain and may result in death if not attended to. One needs to be very careful when using fish oil as it has many negative side effects apart from the endless list of benefits.
